Re: Rhyncholaeliocattleya Gene Crocker 20190104

I don't see how you get a Catt to grow in one of those soft plastic pots. I don't have much experience with Catts, but the few I have won't do anything unless they are clamped down with a rhizome clip and held snug in place. I wouldn't think one of those soft pots would make it happy and stable enou...

Re: Showing of my cloning attempt...

do I need to be thinking about replating? I'm always behind getting the flasking done. So I'd be thinking about it. You're more on top of things than me, so you have awhile. Your protocorms are still super tiny. I wait until they are a little larger before I do anything with them. They could fill u...

Re: Showing of my cloning attempt...

Sorry I am slow to reply, working a really early shift and not getting much sleep. Any link to those mason jar lids? This should be the right thing. They sell a large lid too, but mason jars with the large opening aren't very common. I'd buy the pack of 12 and make sure they fit for what you can fin...

and still no signs of roots. I'm wondering if they aren't getting enough gas exchange to thrive. Just be patient. They take awhile to acclimate to the change and then they will start growing again. They are probably getting enough gas. Dean used to use unvented jars and never had any trouble. If I'...

That will be interesting.

I am about to do some flasking myself with a few crosses. It is tedious work.

Re: Showing of my cloning attempt...

When I make up my sterile water, I use 1 pint canning jars with dome lids, and put them in the pressure cooker for about 3 hrs If you search around on the Phytotech web page there are some tips on this type thing. It will tell you how long you need to cook them for the volume. Would save you some t...

Re: Showing of my cloning attempt...

I hope you don't mind if I go off topic, and repeat some really basic questions Seems appropriate to the topic to me. I've always had trouble sterilizing the stems It's not you. It really is hard and no matter how good your protocol and how careful you are, it happens. Sometimes it happens disastro...

Re: Showing of my cloning attempt...

OK. I thought about those, but I couldn't figure out how you got them into a lid. So I decided I didn't know what you were talking about.

In the old days we used round bandaids. They worked great. I used lids with rounds bandaids for years.
