Re: Phal. corningiana (´Fernbrook´x ´Red Garnet´)

Trivia that you can forget until you are traveling to Orchids Limited on Fernbrook Lane in Plymouth, MN (suburb slightly northwest of Minneapolis). A most happy place for me to go. I have seen corningiana 'Fernbrook' in bloom several times and it is stunning.

Re: Phalaenopsis amboinensis 'Waldhime' x bellina 'OK25'

Peter, I know that well, but forgot to do it!! I also didn't scan through BlueNanta using bellina as the first parent. I have seen flowers and pictures of Guadalupe Pineda from Orchids Limited. It is a very nice hybrid.

Re: Phalaenopsis amboinensis 'Waldhime' x bellina 'OK25'

Peter, I can't find it registered in RHS?

Re: Phalaenopsis amboinensis 'Waldhime' x bellina 'OK25'

Peter, since bellina was accepted as a species in 1995, I was surprised that this primary hybrid had not yet been registered! I would think some of the (amboinensis x violacea) crosses (registered as Malibu Imp in 1977) must have been actually made with bellina?

Re: Chian Xen Pearl 'Peacock Eyes' - petal cupping

Peter - be honest. If you had limited space for more Phalaenopsis, would you get rid of this Chian Xen Pearl 'Peacock Eyes' and get a newer, better harlequin?

Re: Chian Xen Pearl 'Peacock Eyes' - petal cupping

Thank you, Peter. My indoor plant room runs 50-80% humidity. My other harlequin is a more recent hybrid (Shih Hua Pearl - registered 2007) and it opens nicely flat. It could be some other cultural thing. I just really like the spots on this particular clone and can live with the cupping. Sent from m...

Chian Xen Pearl 'Peacock Eyes' - petal cupping

I purchased Phal. Chian Xen Pearl 'Peacock Eyes' from Peter about 6 years ago. The label has a 2008 date on it, which may be the date of cloning? Chian Xen Pearl was registered in 2002 and was used a large number of times as both seed and pod for hybridization, but there are very few online pictures...

Re: Phalaenopsis Orchid World 'Bonnie Vasquez' AM/AOS

Peter - I should have said that the collection of Orchid World clone photos that you created on your site is the best I have seen. The variability within those pictures is impressive, so I can't imagine what the range must be for over 100 different clones.

Re: Phalaenopsis Orchid World 'Bonnie Vasquez' AM/AOS

My impression was sure incorrect. It seemed like I had only seen names/pictures of a dozen or so named clones of Orchid World. My understanding is that some uncertainties about the ploidy and maybe makeup of Deventeriana have made it almost impossible to remake good Orchid Worlds? Sent from my iPad ...

Re: Phalaenopsis Orchid World 'Bonnie Vasquez' AM/AOS

Peter, I know it doesn't really matter, but do you know how many different clones of Orchid World have been awarded? I have 'Joe', which I think was also an AM.

Re: Phalaenopsis Mini Mark 'RF'

Peter, Mini Mark is an excellent, older hybrid containing only three species. Yet, I see that there are only 6 crosses that have been registered from it. Do you think the best clones are polyploid and difficult to breed with?

Re: Phragmipedium Andean Fire

Probably not. The variation just within Memoria Dick Clements can be impressive. This is because besseae has good variability and obviously lindleyanum variation is also pretty wide. Hybrids can be different shapes, sizes and colors within a range.

Re: Phragmipedium Andean Fire

Another difficult species mixup. However the experts at Kew do it, they decided that Phrag_lindleyanum is the correct species name and Phrag_sargentianum and kaieteurum are just synonyms of lindleyanum. They are not even var. or forms of lindleyanum. A complete snub. Memoria Dick Clements was regist...

Re: Why novelty with intense color can't be made larger?

Peter, I appreciate your points. I have never really liked the term "novelty" because the definition seemed unclear. I think you are proposing that only breeding within polychilos subsection would qualify as novelty. Flowers of all novelties should then have paired calli on the lips, rather than the...

Henry Gamson 'Bryna'

I am a bit disappointed when I can't find an online image of a registered, awarded orchid hybrid. I know that classic big white Phals are common and cheap, but many that are available can lack something (size, substance, round/closed shape, etc) so I have two awarded clones in my collection. Sometim...
