Going on vacation

Hi, I'm going on vacation for a week & have no one to water my Phals while I'm gone. They will most likely be in bloom in early Feb when I leave. Will they be okay? I'm worried that the buds/flowers will fall off! The 3" pots are on a 5 day schedule now & the 4" & larger on a 10 day schedule. I worr...

Drop hours under lights for fall/winter ?

Hi,
I've been keeping my T5 lights on my Phals for 13 hours a day. I really don't know how long the lights should be on. Now that September is here do you think I should drop down to 12 hours a day?

Thanks

Re: To bring my Phals outside for the Summer or Not?

I'd rather keep them in but because it can get pretty hot under my T5's, I don't want to get those nasty spider mites!! Also, I thought the Phals need a 10 - 15 degree drop in temps in the fall in order to spike. I know in my plant room I do get at least a 10 degree drop at night. But the temp never...

Re: To bring my Phals outside for the Summer or Not?

Thanks Peter! If I keep them inside, can I assume I won't get any spikes?

To bring my Phals outside for the Summer or Not?

Hi, It's been a while since I posted, but I have a question & need a fast answer!! My Phals are in 3 & 4" pots mostly spag moss w/just a bit of perlite (repotme.com Phal mix). Would it be better to bring them outside? They would be under a covered patio facing East - so I could gradually move them a...

Re: LED Shop Light

... I was going to buy a couple to test out, but every time I call Costco the lights are for the people with rain checks only. It seems as soon as they get a supply in they're gone! Our local Costco seems to have these in ample supply. Every time I go to Costco now you see men with their carts load...

Take a look at this topic

I don't think LED light is bright enough to bring phalaenopsis to flower if that is the only light source.

Do you have a basement or are you able to summer your plants outdoor?

Re: LED Shop Light

To All, Thanks for all the info - oops all over my head!! As far as the Feit white LED's some members of my orchid society: Michigan have used these and seem to like them. Unfortunately, that is all the info I have on them. I was going to buy a couple to test out, but every time I call Costco the li...

Re: T5 or LED's ?

... I'm getting pretty good results except that they put out a lot of heat especially in the summer - 85 to 90 degrees or more and that's with the air conditioner on! I think that's how I got Mites with the high temps & lower humidity. My orchid room is the middle spare bedroom which is also the wa...
