Forgive my waxing literate (given that I am but an inbred redneck...), but these color combinations call for it:

Phalaenopsis a la Claude Monet!

Re: F1605 Phalaenopsis Pylo's Fox

I have a special weakness for those luedde concentric bars. Nice. Now, go out foraging for mushrooms in your woods and stare into those bars to see if they "move" around!

Ah, the joy of flowering seedlings! Yes, it is wonderful to see a stem prop flower out true to its parent, but there just simply is nothing that can compare to the joy of flowering first-bloom seedlings. Congratulations to you both. P.S. -- my favorite of those three is the last one, with concentric...

A different "look" at Peter's F1706 bellina

I gave a plant of F1706 to a neighbor friend of mine. She is from Belgium and can grow anything with leaves. She is also a life-long artist. Instead of taking a photo, she gave me a watercolor representation of her plant and...its frequent companion. When the plant is in flower, this frog sits there...

Wow - beautiful flower, must smell amazing :D - so nice to name it after your Dad, Walton! Thanks, Sylvi - Although it will never win an AOS award (irregular shape...), it is indeed intoxicatingly fragrant. I named it after my father because he was...unintentionally...responsible for my orch...

Re: A visit to the Philbrick-Cricenti Bog in midstate NH

Just plain "awesome." Thanks for the tour. When I was a much younger man, I worked for a Summer at a children's camp near Brevard, NC (home to the former Owen's Orchids). Of all the Cypripediums and Orchis and the expected things, the plants that most captured my admiration were Platantheras. To me,...

Re: Phal. schilleriana 'Silver Leaves' first bloom of this p

Beautiful. I also love the classic, more open form...I think they are just simply more beautiful in a natural way. I can picture this plant with a branched spike of gently arching goodness!

Congratulations and good luck with its future.

Thanks, Peter. Sorry for the sideways photo -- it does not show up like that on my desktop and I didn't know how to fix it!

Blc. Mem. James Walton Ray 'Mendenhall'

This photo sent to me today from C&H. I named this cross after my daddy. It is Blc. Raye Holmes 'Raleigh' (Bow Bells x Oconee) x Blc. Mem. Crispin Rosales 'Pine Knot', AM/AOS (Bonanza x Norman's Bay). Blue-blooded, with those four grandparents, it runs about 8" in natural spread, flowers reliably tw...
