Hello I'm Brandon.

I started with orchids at about 12 years old when I pirated my mom's garden center phal once it was past bloom. Managed not to kill it and kept it going for ten years. Always loved the reliability and bloom duration. I grew a few plants till I finished college and then my careers took me across the globe without the time/space to do orchids justice.

Well the orchid bug hit me again and my life is less global than before.....so I can grow again!

I started with seven sad looking box store castoffs last September 2015.....joined my orchid society at same time.....and now have 60 plants ranging from my 3 buck chucks to some of Peters jaw dropping stem props....currently plotting out how to make more space for all the others I plan to get! :D

What can I say, beauty is addictive and Im quite pleased to be back.

Welcome back. Phalaenopsis is very diverse. You will find something that strikes your fancy. If not. You could try creating something new for yourself.

My name is Dennis. I am from southwest Florida, Ft Myers area. I started a few years ago just because I liked them and a lady I had worked for had a few in her porch. I started with 2 and has seriously grown in size and my collection. I am not very savvy with their names but I have a few pictures. Mine live outside year round and love it. This year I received about 100 % bloom from each plant. With my 3 1/2 year old orchid absolutely blooming beyond my wildest dreams. well 3 and 1/2 years since I have had it. Most of the other orchids I have collected were rescues from Walmart and various nurseries when they mark them down. Please let me know what you think. I am super new to growing and have been basically winging it for the most part.

Dennis - welcome. We are a casual but specialized group. We are here because we like phalaenopsis but we also grow a few other orchids. Rescue orchids are great - they are usually clones (no names give at time of sale) and nice flowers. This is a place to share photos of your flowers and also discussions on what works for you specific growing environment.

Hi! My name is Lisa

I start working with orchids in 1999 since today :) My basic interest - Subtribe Pleurothallidinae. But we have a lot of novelty - type Phalaenopsis hybrids. Our orchids grow in two GH, one - warm and other - cool/coold.

Hi, my name is Marianne. I'm from Western NY (between Buffalo and Syracuse).

I have had orchids for probably at least ten years with not much success. I am an eternal optimist, however! I love phals; they come in so many gorgeous colors and I love the shape of them and how they look in bloom.

This is going to be my year when everything changes and my orchids are in spike all the time! I think a lot of them are too far gone, so I am looking forward to starting with many new ones and having success. I have learned a lot from this forum and another and discovered the error of my ways - a lot of it is conditions, which I have corrected.

My husband and I have two dogs - Ginger, a medium-sized mixed breed (13 yrs. old), and Bambi, a french bulldog (age 6). Love both of them silly, but Bambi is our baby. I am an active member on a french bulldog forum and enjoy it very much. Frenchies are a special breed and I would recommend them very much to anyone who is interested. Bambi has provided us endless joy and is adorable to boot.

I hope to be retiring in late 2019. I work in education and have enjoyed my job.

Looking forward to reading everyone's posts!

Hello and a Happy new year to all :text-happynewyear:

First login and thought id introduce myself. My name is Alje and i live in the South east of the United Kingdom.
Long time Phalaenopsis admirer and always had 1 or 2 around on windowsills over the years. But the P.Phalaenopsis bug has bit me recently and i now have 15 blooming size Phals and 3 seedling Phals, but am still very much an amateur/newbie indoor grower. For some reason i am drawn to French spot and Leopard type hybrids, something about the patterns i guess draws me in. Even better when they have colorful/patterned lips and callus.

During many hours internet searching this christmas holiday for beautiful Phals and where to get them online, I stumbled upon Peter Lin's post of Phalaenopsis Terradyne 'Mulligan' and that led me to Big Leaf orchids and forum.
I have already learnt much and hope to continue learning from all the knowledgeable growers and their posts here.
I hope my hybrid growing attempts will be successful and rewarded with healthy plants and many beautiful lasting flowers.

My ultimate goal would be to source a P. Terradyne 'Mulligan' and produce flowers as beautiful as the ones Peter Lin has posted, just stunningly beautiful. Pattern, colour, and form. (Any pointers as to who still cultivates them would be much appreciated as it seems like several of the best Orchid nurseries have unfortunately ceased trading in recent years).

In the meantime i will loiter here and expand my knowledge and do my best with the beauties i have.
Wishing you all a happy and rewarding new year.

Alje

Hello Everyone!

I reside in Hampshire, England and am originally from the San Diego area. After moving around for the last 40 years, my husband assures me we will not be moving again. So I bought a small greenhouse and am currently in the process of setting it up to grow orchids. My favourite Phal is my Sweet Memory, which is just coming into bloom. I also have several NoID Phals, two baby schilleriana and a bellina, a few Cattleyas, Coelogynes and Cymbidiums.
