My shade house is finally complete!!!!

Post by Paul Mc » Thu Jul 05, 2012 9:00 pm

Hi everyone. Hope I'm posting in the right place since I'm new here, lol....

After 2 months of designing in my head and over 1 month of construction, I have my very first orchid shade house!!!!! I just had to share! I still have a few pieces I must stain, but it's done structurally, so like a kid I couldn't resist moving some of my 'chids in! Hope you like!

OMG, it's gorgeous! You are quite the craftsman and should sell the plans.

Thanks everyone!!!!

I designed it conceptually, but one of my friends designed it architecturally, so plans aren't available by me, lol...

I'm so glad to be on this forum! Another resource for learning about my passion!

Looks great and promising. Wouldn't a net with smaller openings keep more insects out?

I like it, it's excellent and beautiful!!! But I'm with Peter lots of insects are going to get in through those large openings and one caterpillar can do a ton of damage......I speak from experience

Maybe further north there are fewer insects. It's not like in the South - especially Florida where the insects are several times larger. They just don't die.
Mosquitos this year are out for blood because of a mild winter we had.

I like it! It's pretty sweet. Is it set up to mist?

I actually considered a tighter screening, but was concerned about air flow and strength of the screening against possums, squirrels and other rodents, OH MY!!!! LOL... I opted for the thicker gauge as a result. While we do have insects, I've not had a problem thus far in the many years I've grown outside. However, I'm also aware it happens in an instant. So, I go over every plant almost daily, wishing them many more happy blooms.

I'm actually trying to figure out a misting system to get now. It was built with enough hidden nooks and crannies to sneak a misting system in. I'm also looking at outdoor fans to attach at the top and point towards the plants for those days when it's just way too hot or still.
