Various photos from Greenhouse this morning 11-15-2018

This is my cross Phal violacea (v. Mentawai X ('PPFI' x 'Red Bank')) made in 1998. Most of the variety mentawai that I have seen have weak color and reflex petals. However, I do like variety mentawai and its longer inflorescence. When the late Dr. Eric Christenson was alive, he saw my mentawai in bloom and commented that people usually sent him flowers for identification but not the entire inflorescence.
In this cross, I was trying to get a darker color Phal violacea with longer inflorescence. Pollen parent is a plant I got from HP Norton. HP Norton did the flasking for me and gave me back couple dozen seedlings to grow in July 26, 2002.
Today Phal vioalcea var mentawai is classified as Phal mentawaiensis. Its offspring with Phal violacea is Phal Violmenta registered in 2015.

In this photo you can see inflorescence is 30 cm on this Phalaenopsis Viomenta (Phalaenopsis violacea X Phalaenopsis mentawaiensis)

Phalaenopsis Viomenta (Phal. mentawaiensis x Phal violacea from HP Norton) - pictured left, about 4 cm. Phalaenopsis Germaine Vincent (Phalaenopsis violacea X Phalaenopsis speciosa) pictured on the right, 6 cm.

Phalaenopsis Carol Darnell 'Green Apple'
(Phalaenopsis Lyndon KT Glory X Phalaenopsis Lyndon Jade Agate). This hybrid was made by Lyndon Lin but I got a plant from Mr Chen at Mituo Orchids. I sold a plant to my customer Carol Darnell on May 2013. This was Carol's favorite plant because flowers are very long lasting and bloomed several time. Carol passed away in her sleep unexpectedly on October 2013. I got this plant back from Carol's family. Got Lyndon's permission to name this hybrid after Carol. I've tried stem prop without success, so the next best thing was to do a selfing. This is a first bloom seedlings from the selfing of Phal Carol Darnell. This is my favorite flower from this grex so far.

Phalaenopsis Joy Spring Canary - remake by Ben Belton.

Phal Chiada Spark 'Wilson' (Taipei Gold X Sunrise Red Peoker)

Phalaenopsis Yaphon Gelacea 'Yaphon #7' AM/AOS (Phalaenopsis Yaphon Gelblitz X Phalaenopsis Chang Maw Jade) This plant was awarded at Dallas Judging Center this year.

Phalaenopsis Telu (Phalaenopsis tetraspis X Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana)

Image

Phalaenopsis Telu (Phalaenopsis tetraspis X Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana) - first bloom seedling. First bloom 4 spikes. This is why we see Phal speciosa/tetraspis being used often in hybridizing today.

Image

Phalaenopsis Nobby's Purple Eagle 'Nobby #1' (Phalaenopsis Black Eagle X Phalaenopsis George Vasquez)

Image

Phalaenpsis sanderiana - this species bloom 2-3 times a year, easily branch and rebloom from same inflorescences.

Image

Phalaenopsis gigantea - one of my favorite. Not blooming at its best, but it does bloom 2-3 times a year on the same inflorescences.

Image

Renanstylis Bangkok Beauty 'Peter Lin' AM/AOS - this was awarded in 2013 - when the plant was more compact. Plant is much taller now but no keiki yet.

Renanstylis Bangkok Beauty 'Peter Lin' AM/AOS and Trichoglottis philippinensis - These are two of my tallest orchids

Earlier this summer we started a cork log with several keiki of Phalaenopsis pulchra. They are doing great so far.

Image

This cork log has a few Phalaenopsis cornu-cervi on it. We just added couple more this year.

Long Trieu gave me some phrags to try at slipper symposium. These are Chuck Acer's hybrids.
