Phalaenopsis Miro Sun ‘Jen#1’

Sun is out today. This flower is especially beautiful under natural light.

A-men, Peter.

I enjoyed this under my artificial lights a lot, but when I took it outside, something odd happened:
Normally, flowers look more red in my T-8 configuration growing under lights...then they look more, shall we say, "tame" outdoors." Not as red as indoors.

I had the exact opposite reaction with this plant when I took it out into sunlight (admit: late day, so things appear more red than they actually are when photographed for outside photos, but still...VERY glowing color).

The first flower worried me since the light spot on the dorsal was a white streak -- not reflection from the sun (you can see it in the photo if you look closely), but the second flower, opening today, has perfectly normal patterns with not a color streak.

Given the history of its 3/4 Mituo Sun parentage, and the results of Miro Sun are already published, I have to say that I am so very excited about its future as a parent.

Peter, since crosses that are basically similar to Mituo Sun (or gigantea) x DTE were so fine, please tell me that you have flasks already waiting for the next flask listing soon of Miro Sun x DTE or Mituo Gelb Eagle 'Pylo', etc.

As always, thanks for bringing us such good things. Joy abounds!
Walton

This one has been grown under LEDs. Definitely cooler here in Berkeley then at Peters :o ) Most of what comes out red for others seems to have more purple here.

Definitely one of the more exciting introductions lately. I have no idea how to grow this long-term since its root system is so vigorous, I don't know what kind of container to use! Maybe I will mount it and try to "stear" the roots back toward the mount.

By the way, I think Peter has told me that this is a 4n; I tried to let it carry a pod with a seedling of Jong's Gigan Cherry, but the cross did not take. I would love to see this x 4n Golden Bells 'Mendenhall', but I cannot find a plant of GB'M' !

Congrats again,
Walton
