First bloom for me; really grateful to have this in my personal collection. I've never met Ben, but am proud as punch of this young stem and I do promise to take care of it extra well. Thanks, Ben for sending these to Peter and thanks Peter for offering to share.

Nice. I can never get a picture that shows very good the nice color on the lower part of the petals where bellina markings are.

Thanks, Ben.

I've always had the same problem getting that kind of color correct in a photo. For *decades*, I took so many photos of Blc. Eagle Island 'Mendenhall' -- every one of which looked true through the lens (yes, this was back in the day of 35 mm...), only to disappoint again. About 30 years later, I have only seen one photo that is even close to the real flower, and I suspect a little "photo-shopping" was involved. :D I have the same problem with blue cattleyas, although I do find that a green background (ferns or fabric) does help.

Your Bear King is so fine that I was tempted … but I found the self-restraint to not put a pod on it. This year. Next year, when it is even just a bit larger, it can expect to "earn its rent" in my uber-small growing space!
All best,
Walton

Personally, I like the first of Sylvi's photos the most due to the intensity of the color in the laterals. Having said that, anyone in their right mind with 8" of space left would add this to their collection even if they only saw a 1970's era "Poloroid" photo!
