I absolutely love that soft, cream colour. You can definitely see the venosa influence.

Re: 2017 Orchid Festivals

Has Joseph Wu offered anything new in recent years besides lueddes and the same run of expensive stems they had around 2012? I'm honestly curious if they have anything new that has been as successful as JSC, JST, etc.

Re: New Hybrid & equestris influence

I am currently conducting an experiment with a zygo cross that as pod parent has produced 2 extremely unlikely intergeneric crosses. I would put very little hope in this actually being successful. I've heard numerous reports of Zygopetalum species and hybrids being self fertilizing, to the point wh...

Re: Speciosa/Tetraspis C1 Hybrid

From what I understand, the confusion over all the hybrids is people using what clearly should be a speciosa as a tetraspis 'C#1' and registering it under the former. So when you see something with tetraspis in it's hybrid background, you don't know if it's the proper, barred form, or the splotchy "...

Re: Speciosa/Tetraspis C1 Hybrid

My frank opinion on the matter is that tetraspis has spots/bars similar to zebrina and such, whereas it is solely speciosa that has the random red splotching. I don't ever see where the confusion came from. They're both so obviously different.

And plus, talking about the violacea vs. bellina, they had more than fragrance for differences. They had different natural ranges and flower morphology.

Re: Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana 'Joy' 7 cm

Haven't there also been plenty of rumors (and possibly a confirmation) that these luedde's from Wu are 4n? That would easily account for the larger size. As for the difference in fragrance, if we're talking about 4n plants plus linebreeding, I can easily see how could have changed over time.

I need one of each, no joke. I'm very interested in the primary hybrids that you've made. I feel like you have a lot of uncommon ones in there.

Re: Phalaenopsis Anna-Larati Soekardi x Ascocentrum miniatum

So is Phalaenopsis and Ascocentrum genetically compatible then or is it just exceptional? The whole genetics of orchids amazes me :) From what I've seen over the years, orchids are generally compatible within a taxonomical subtribe, which is the rank right above genus. A great example of this would...

Re: Pollen donors?

I'm not looking for a complete dominance from LDBK. I know that equestris can kind of water down colour, but I want to see to what extent. I had a tertiary equestris cross from Patrick a long time ago, and it was an amazing cross. I'm looking to use equestris as a background building block, not an i...

Pollen donors?

So I bought an equestris a little while back, and I've been wanting to see what putting a nice and red LDBK on it would look like, so I was wondering if anyone who has one would be willing to send me pollen. I have the little plastic tubes that Jared and I split a few years back, and I'd be willing ...
