Kenneth Shubert Or Purple Martin?

Post your questions and photos to identify a species phalaenopsis. We maybe able to identify a primary hybrid between two species parents. Generally we cannot identify a complex hybrid.

Kenneth Shubert Or Purple Martin?

Post by Taargus » Fri Dec 09, 2016 6:36 pm

Hi all, I bought this Phal in 2011 at a show unlabeled, but could have sworn that the vendor said it was Kenneth Shubert. When I posted a pic elsewhere online someone was certain it is Purple Martin, (Kenneth Shubert x violacea?) It looks like they are right when I compared photos online, and is possible I didn't hear the end of the sentence when I asked what it was. I'm not the expert so I figured I'd ask some folks that may know better.

So Kenneth Shubert or Purple Martin?

Thank you!

Your plant is Phal Purple Martin. Difference between these two hybrid is that Phal Kenneth Schubert has a more upright inflorescence.

Thanks Peter. I hadn't even noticed that when browsing images to see if I could figure it out myself, but sure enough, mine does hold it's spike somewhat upward if that's where the light it coming from. The lip looks different too.
