What do you guys use for flasks. Up here in Canada selection is limited, normally have to order from the States.

I have used mason jars in the past. Where I lived previously they were easy to obtain, cheap, and reusable. Lately I have been able to obtain some nice plastic flasks. Aren't as heavy either.

I have only seen the top one once and they are nice but expensive. I believe CJ might use the lower one. I have sent him this link and maybe he can comment. I have concerns with most food type containers maintaining sterility.

I use the glass french square bottles with rubber stoppers. It's a bit of a pain to get them delivered, but once you have them they last forever.

I use the old Gatorade 1 ltr. flasks with the metal caps. Once I got 350 of them. I put about 220 cc medium into each flask and 12 - 13 plants. They do very well in those flasks and grow up to tha cap.
Seed flasks take 4 to 6 month before I replate them, replates take 7 to 9 month. That depends on the genetics of what I grow. I try to grow only 4n plants but can not count the cromosomes.

I have used the bottom one but i do not like it. No matter how well you seal it, the media dries out before the plants are ready to be removed. I have a zillion small and large glass milk bottles with rubber stoppers that Ken used at Lenette Orchids if anyone is interested. Would have to be delivered in person because the weight of them would bankrupt Donald Trump.

I've had good luck using deli style food containers. Incredibly cheap and I've never had contamination issues. I do wrap the edge/ lid with Saran Wrap. I get mine from the loblaws wholesale place. I believe the brand is pro-kal or fabri-kal. I use them unvented.

The 500 ml ones have no damage after being heated to 121 C. I sow and replace onto 500 ml containers.

You might want to buy a package, mix up some media, sterilize it and let them sit there for a month or so. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

My flasks are vented. If the medium after some months gets dry than I add 12 cc of H2O with a bit of O139. Works very well for me.
