LaCross Alert

Post by peterlin » Tue Apr 15, 2014 3:15 pm

I need a device to alert me by text when temperature or humidity drops to a certain level. I got this LaCross Alert. This morning our temperature was 35F. Because of freezing alert I shut off the water to my greenhouse.

I got a text message that temperature was 61F - I thought no problem, that's on the side of the greenhouse. In the middle of the greenhouse it reads 65F.

Then at about noon I keep getting text every 10 minutes that humidity is below 50%. I was outside and I did not think much of this - thinking the cold morning air dry up the greenhouse. It wasn't until later I remember I turned off the water to my greenhouse. I do have a backup misting system that turned on when temperature is above 70F and humidity is low. Well, that device is not working because the solenoid valve needs to be replaced.

All is well now. I'm home and I mist my plants to raise the humidity to above 50%.

Works great doesn't it? CJ told me about this unit. I have a sensor in the greenhouse and one in the tent.
I got an alert that it hadn't sent a signal for an hour, I knew then the power was out and I avoided disaster because the house was 50 degrees and the parrots were not happy.

Not bad for about $100.

Looking at their website, I see the package includes remote monitoring for 5 years, but the alerts are only for one. Do you know the cost of extending that?

I am not too concerned about humidity, as my fogger is on a humidistat and has never let me down, but I have a thermalarm set up to activate an RF sender (range about 1/4 mile) that communicates with a receiver in my home, and that activates a sensaphone.

Ray -
On their website, I see 1 year extension is $11.88, 3 years $28.44

I also use Sensaphone that will call me when greenhouse is without power, high or low temperature. Do you know if Sensaphone has a humidity module? I bought a smoke detector for Sensaphone but I gave up when I look the all the wires from smoke detector and instructions. I like plug and play.
