Trying a new plastic pot designed for mounting

Post by peterlin » Tue Oct 14, 2014 7:12 pm

This is a new plastic pot made in Taiwan for mounting orchids. I saw a picture of this on Facebook and got interested because additional pot can be added on as plant grows larger.
Also this could be useful for growing mounted plant indoor as potting mix won't dry out as quickly.

I was able to place this Phal lobbii hybrid on this without the help of fishing line

Once the plant is secured in place, I fill the plastic container with cypress mulch I got from home depot.

Either side can be used as front

Here are pictures of second generation. But I didn't get this style because I don't like the silver color. Otherwise maybe the larger opening would be easier to place a plant into it

I have used suet-holders to do the same thing. I dipped them in the "Dip-It" liquid plastic stuff used on tool handles as a way to ensure no rust.

I have also attached heavy-duty plastic mesh to cedar boards.

I have cat/soph cernua seedlings in flask that are due soon so I have to think of something. I don't want to grow them on mounts that they attach to. Plastic mesh fashioned into a long tubular mount may be best.
