Found this Phalaenopsis Golden Bells 'Mistral's Golden Splash' HCC/AOS flowering. This is a chance 4n hybrid registered by HP Norton in 1988. Parents are Phal Golden Sand 'Canary' FCC/AOS (3n) x Phalaenopsis venosa (2n)

Alas AOS does not have a photo record of 'Mistral's Golden Splash'. At time of award it had 5 flowers 3 bud on 1 inflorescence. Flower measures 7.6 x 8.1 cm.

I have seen this flower bloomed better before but plant is not doing its best at the moment.

It would be interesting to pair this with best non-fading yellow Phalaenopsis Sogo Shito (about 8 cm) that I have right now. So we will see if this match is successful 4 months from now.

We have larger yellow phalaenopsis with standard type form. However, these flowers will last for months but their color will fade. I like Phal Sogo Shito better because color fades to more yellow as flower age.

So taking a break from breeding with Phalaenopsis Dragon Tree Eagle and the like, working on these larger not as fragrant 4n type.

Peter doth say:

Me say, if anyone can figure out how to make fragrant 4n's, you will, Peter. In time; all in good time.
