Big Leaf Orchids greenhouse

Post by peterlin » Wed Nov 27, 2013 10:38 am

It's below freezing but sun is out. I went to check on my greenhouse this morning before breakfast. Two hours later I haven't had my breakfast yet.

It's sunny and greenhouse temperature is 70F. I turned on misting for my Vanda and gigantea.

A few pictures taken today.

I did a selfing on this Sogo Rose and use pollen from Phal Mituo King Bellina 'Fat Boy' to see if I will get seeds later.

Image

Trying to show this Phal sanderiana 'Joy' flowering on and off all year. It even produced a flowering size Keiki which I didn't notice but couple months ago. Finally removing it from the plant.

And here are couple Keiki of Phal pulchra 'Orchidglade' SM/SFOS it was originally named as Phal speciosa.

This is another AM109 selected flowers I posted before. It really needed to be repotted.

Doesn't look like there is any shade cloth in the first pic, but I know that can't be right. ??

Nice quick tour of the greenhouse Peter! Love seeing the stuff at your place. You should do this more often... And don't start telling us how gross and dirty it is :p.

You know it's a great forum when you search for "bellina" and it returns this from the server:
"The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: bellina."

I, too, love seeing your greenhouse, Peter. It would be so easy to be distracted from breakfast for at least 2 hours.

Maybe you could do this every week?

Thank you all. Adrienne, Yes, I will keep this thread updated with new photos.

Brenda, I do have an exterior shade cloth outside of this greenhouse. I think it's 75% shade, silver color. It doesn't mean that 25% of light comes through. It's bright enough for me to bloom Vanda regularly. I did not plan for exterior shade initially - but Texas sun in the summer is just too bright.

Peter, question regarding keiki.

Can keiki remain on the parent plant indefinitely? I have a parent and child Phalaenopsis. The parent has two healthy leaves and the keiki has five leaves, lots of roots, and today, I noticed the keiki is developing a flower spike. This is the third year for this keiki.

The keiki suffered carpenter wasps last summer.

Keiki should be removed when growing indoor due to less than favorable condition. It's alright for a while because it gets resources from mother plant. In nature. Yes Keiki can be kept on plant for a long time.

Hello all,

Peter, I'm so jealous. I could play in your greenhouse all day long!

I would like that one, and that one, and oh, why not that one too! I always have room for one more.
